So what if you are dealing with strings much longer than 4000 chars?

Say a as much strings as a book (300 pages)

What do you suggest?

As long as you are not handling thousands of books at the same time in memory there is nothing you can do. However, if what you are trying to do is to perform search, then you should look into more efficient data structures, like a Trie to search words on a book.
